A randomized study examined daily amounts of 1.5, 3, and 6 grams of betaine for six weeks. In all three groups, the measured homocysteine concentration decreased compared to the placebo. The study did not establish that one of these amounts is the optimal daily dosage for all users.

Is 500 mg of TMG per day sufficient?

500 mg is a common amount per capsule or serving, but there is no evidence that 500 mg is the optimal daily amount for every user.

The European claim conditions stipulate that a quantified portion must contain at least 500 mg of betaine. However, for the beneficial effect mentioned within that claim, a total daily intake of 1.5 grams is required.
