Biochemical survival for young parents – Blog 5 | My NMN experience
When I was just getting older, I didn’t expect how deep fatigue could be. Sleep deprivation was a given, but it surprised me how quickly my mental acuity disappeared, how short my fuse became, and how often I reached for sugar without thinking about it. This led me to my search for support from within – and so began my NMN experience.
Why I went in search of more energy
The first few months with a baby are magical, but also intense. Your relationship changes, your routines disappear, and even basic things like exercising or eating healthy feel like a luxury. During that time, I began to delve into cellular health and discovered the importance of NAD+, and especially how NMN supplements support it.
Fatigue as a young parent goes beyond simple lack of sleep. You learn not only how to care for a baby, but also how to find a new balance in your relationship, work, family and friendships. Regular exercise fell by the wayside, cooking was replaced by snacks, and I found myself having more and more mental noise.
Why parenthood asks so much of you
In the beginning, everything is about survival: sleep deprivation, diapers, feedings, and learning to cope with totally new responsibilities. But more than that happens. Your routine disappears, and exercise often falls by the wayside. That means less endorphins, less exercise, less dopamine. And you feel that.
I noticed:
- Faster to sugar grab (without really wanting to)
- Made it harder for me to concentrate
- Forgotten became
- Got a shorter fuse
- Feeling overwhelmed even with simple tasks
And yet: I knew I could do something to support my biochemical balance. Thus began my search for nicotinamide mononucleotide, or NMN.
What is NMN and how does it work?
NMN is a precursor to NAD+, a crucial molecule for energy production at the cellular level. When you take NMN, you increase NAD+ levels in your body. As a result, your mitochondria (the energy factories in your cells) work better, leading to:
- More energy at the cellular level
- Support of cognitive functions
- Better glucose processing
- Less oxidative stress
- Repair of DNA damage
My NMN experience was not a sudden energy kick like coffee, but a steady improvement in clarity, calmness and stamina.
My NMN experience: the first 2 weeks
After two weeks of using 250 mg of NMN daily, I noticed:
- Better focus while working
- Reduced cravings for snacks and sugar
- More stable energy throughout the day
- Calmer mood and better stress resistance
I am now using 500 mg per day (2 capsules) and feel mentally sharper than before. This improvement is consistent with what scientific studies show about NMN.
What does science say?
Studies such as those published in Cell Metabolism and Nature Aging confirm the benefits of NMN:
- Increase in NAD+ levels
- Improvement of insulin sensitivity
- Cognitive support for fatigue
- Support for DNA repair and cell aging
- Improved physical performance and recovery ability

Side effects NMN and my experience
During my NMN experience, I did not experience any side effects. Studies show that NMN is safe under normal use. Possible (but rare) side effects include mild upset stomach or insomnia at high doses. When in doubt, always consult with a physician.
Roadmap: start your own NMN experience
Increase dosage as needed (up to 500-750 mg/day)
Read up on NMN and NAD+
Start with a low dose (e.g., 250 mg per day)
Notice changes in your focus, mood and energy level
Combine with healthy eating and adequate hydration
Conclusion: is NMN worth trying?
If you recognize yourself with constant fatigue, mental fog or sugar addiction as a young parent, an NMN supplement may be a valuable addition. My NMN experience did not give me superpowers, but it did make me feel like I regained control of my energy, my mood and my brain.
NMN is not a panacea, but a powerful support that works at the cellular level. And for me, that was exactly what I needed.
